We are pleased to announce that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has awarded a grant to support the 2020 Reel Time at GALA.
This year’s international film festival features contemporary co-productions of Latin American films with provocative and innovative content, and a classic film from the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. “We are thrilled,” states Executive Director Rebecca Medrano, “to this prestigious grant award to support from the Academy for a second consecutive year.”
“Latin America”, added Producing Artistic Director Hugo Medrano, “has witnessed record-breaking numbers in film production in recent years. One of the key dimensions of this cinematic explosion has been the flourishing of international co-productions between Latin American countries as well as other North American and European nations. These collaborations have led to greater support for independent filmmakers and a new vitality and creativity to cinema from the region.”
Reel Time at GALA will run November 18 through November 22 at GALA Hispanic Theatre. The festival will include post-screening discussions with actors, directors and film experts and host several receptions.
The festival is curated by Carlos Gutiérrez, co-founder and executive director of Cinema Tropical in New York.
