We are looking for DC-based fierce performance poets to join performance artist and spoken word poet José Torres-Tama in a new work commissioned by GALA - United States of Amnesia: From Fugitive Slave Act to Zero Tolerance. GALA Hispanic Theatre seeks an intern or interns for its Arts Engagement and Education Department.
This position is remote and unpaid.
Interns in this department will work on GALA's school year programming, including writing study guides and worksheets for students grades 3-12, writing and designing newsletters for educators, assisting with the administration of virtual educational programming, and doing thorough research on schools in the D.C. and greater Washington D.C. area. Interns will learn Vendini and AudienceView Select patron ticketing platforms.
A strong writing background and English/Spanish bilingual is preferred, as well as an interest in education and community outreach. Basic skills required are: the ability to work independently, take direction well, be collaborative and not be afraid to ask questions.
Time commitment and length of term will be decided upon between the intern and the Director of Arts Engagement and Education, with occasional meetings between 10am-6pm EST.
The intern will receive dedicated mentorship hours from Director of Arts Engagement.
